First Reading (Isaiah 55: 6-9)
A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
Seek the Lord while he may be found; call to him while he is near. Let the wicked abandon his way, let him forsake his thoughts, let him turn to the Lord for he will have mercy, for our God is generous in forgiving. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, my ways are not your ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are above the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts above your thoughts.
Second Reading (Philippians 1: 20c-24, and 27)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Philippians.
Brothers and sisters: Christ will be exalted through my person, whether I love or die. For to me, to live is Christ, and even death is profitable for me. But if I am to go on living, I shall be able to enjoy fruitful labor. Which shall I choose? So I feel torn between the two. I desire greatly to leave this life and to be with Christ, which will be better by far, but it is necessary for you that I remain in his life. Try, then, to adjust your lives according to the Gospel of Christ. May I see it when I come to you, and if I cannot come, may I at least hear that you stand firm in the same spirit, striving to uphold the faith of the Gospel with one heart.
Gospel (Matthew: 20: 1-16)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
Jesus stated this to his disciples: "This story throws light on the kingdom of heaven. A landowner went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. He agreed to pay the workers a salary of a silver coin for the day, and sent them to his vineyard. He went out again at about nine in the morning, and seeing others idle in the square, he stated to them: 'You, too, go to my vineyard and I will pay you what is just.' So they went. The owner went out at midday and again at three in the afternoon, and he did the same. Finally he went out at the last working hour – it was the eleventh – and he saw others standing there. So he stated to them: 'Why do you stay idle the whole day?' They answered: 'Because no one has hired us.' The master stated: 'Go and work in my vineyard.' When evening came, the owner of the vineyard stated to his manager: 'Call the workers and pay them their wage, beginning with the last and ending with the first.' Those who had come to work at the eleventh hour turned up and were given a denarius each (a silver coin). When it was the turn of the first, they thought they would receive more. But they, too, received a denarius each. So, on receiving it, they began to grumble against the landowner. They stated: 'These last hardly worked an hour, yet you have treated them the same as us who have endured the day's burden and heat.' The owner stated to one of them: 'Friend, I have not been unjust to you. Did we not agree on a denarius a day? So take what is yours and go. I want to give to the last the same as I gave to you. Do I not have the right to do as I please with my money? Why are you envious when I am kind?' So will it be: the last will be first, the first will be last."

I will praise you day after day and exalt your name forever. Great is the Lord, most worthy of praise; and his deeds are beyond measure.
Compassionate and gracious is the Lord, slow to anger and abounding in love. The Lord is good to everyone; his mercy embraces all creation.
Righteous is the lord in all his ways, his mercy shows in all his deeds. he is near those who call on him, who call trustfully upon his name.

Estuve de acuerdo para pagar los trabajadores un salario de una moneda de plata para el día, y envió a su viña. El hacendado fue afuera otra vez a las nueve en la mañana, y viendo otras personas en la plaza, él dice a ellos: ‘Ustedes, también, vayan a mi viña y pagaré qué es justo.’ Por lo tanto, ustedes fueron a su viña. Otra vez, el hacendado fue afuera en el mediodía, y otra vez a las tres en la tarde, hecho el mismo. Finalmente, fue afuera en la última hora de trabajando – a las once en la noche – y vieron otras personas no hacen nada. Busca el Señor, cuando puede ser encontrado; llama a él durante puede estar cerca. Permite los malos abandonan su manera, permite ellos desamparan sus pensamientos, permite ellos giran al Señor por él tendrá misericordia, por nuestro Dios es generoso en perdonando. Por mis pensamientos no son sus pensamientos, mis maneras no son sus maneras, dice el Señor. Por como los cielos son altos arriba la tierra, por lo tanto mis maneras más alto que sus maneras, y mis pensamientos más alto que sus pensamientos.
Segunda Lectura (Filipenses 1: 20c-24 y 27)
Una lectura de la carta de San Pablo a los filipenses.
Hermanos y hermanas: Cristo será exaltado a través de mi persona, tanto si amo o muero. Por a mí, para vivir es Cristo, y muerte es rentable para mí. Pero si continue viviendo, podré disfrutar fructífero trabajo. ¿Cuál debería elegir? Así, tengo una opción que es difícil. Quiero muchísimamente para dejar esta vida y estar con Cristo, cual es mejor por largo, pero es necesario para usted que yo quedo en su vida. Prueba, entonces, ajustar sus vidas concuerda con el Evangelio de Cristo. Permite me para verlo cuando vengo a usted, y si no puedo venir, por lo menos debería oír para mantenerse firme en el mismo espíritu, luchando para levantar el fe del Evangelio con una corazón.

Out of love for sinful man he humbled himself to be born of the Virgin. By suffering on the cross he freed us from unending death, and by rising from the dead he gave us eternal life. Busquen a Yahvé ahora que lo pueden encontrar, llámenlo ahora que está cerca. Que el malvado deje sus caminos, y el criminal sus proyectos; vuélvanse a Yahvé, que tendrá piedad de ellos, a nuestro Dios, que está siempre dispuesto a perdonar. Pues sus proyectos no son los míos, y mis caminos no son los mismos de ustedes, dice Yahvé. Así, como el cielo está muy alto por encima de la tierra, así también mis caminos se elevan por encima de sus caminos y mis proyectos son muy superiores a los de ustedes.
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 145) (Versículos 2–3, 8–9 y 17–18)
La respuesta es: El Señor está cerca de aquellos que lo invocan.
• Día tras día te bendeciré, y alabaré tu Nombre sin cesar. ¡Grande es el Señor y muy digno de alabanza: su grandeza es insondable!
• El Señor es bondadoso y compasivo, lento para enojarse y de gran misericordia; el Señor es bueno con todos y tiene compasión de todas sus criaturas.
• El Señor es justo en todos sus caminos y bondadoso en todas sus acciones. El Señor está cerca de aquellos que lo invocan, de aquellos que lo invocan de verdad.

Cristo será glorificado en mi cuerpo. Porque para mí la vida es Cristo, y la muerte, una ganancia. Pero si la vida en este cuerpo me permite seguir trabajando fructuosamente, ya no sé qué elegir. Me siento urgido de ambas partes: deseo irme para estar con Cristo, porque es mucho mejor, pero por el bien de ustedes es preferible que permanezca en este cuerpo. Solamente les pido que se comporten como dignos seguidores del Evangelio de Cristo. De esta manera, sea que yo vaya a verlos o que oiga hablar de ustedes estando ausente, sabré que perseveran en un mismo espíritu, luchando de común acuerdo y con un solo corazón por la fe del Evangelio.

Se puso de acuerdo con ellos para pagarles una moneda de plata al día, y los envió a su viña. Salió de nuevo hacia las nueve de la mañana, y al ver en la plaza a otros que estaban desocupados, les dijo: ‘Vayan ustedes también a mi viña y les pagaré lo que sea justo.’ Y fueron a trabajar. Salió otra vez al mediodía, y luego a las tres de la tarde, e hizo lo mismo. Ya era la última hora del día, la undécima, cuando salió otra vez y vio a otros que estaban allí parados. Les preguntó: ‘¿Por qué se han quedado todo el día sin hacer nada?’ Contestaron ellos: ‘Porque nadie nos ha contratado.’ Y les dijo: ‘Vayan también ustedes a trabajar en mi viña.’ Al anochecer, dijo el dueño de la viña a su mayordomo: ‘Llama a los trabajadores y págales su jornal, empezando por los últimos y terminando por los primeros.’ Vinieron los que habían ido a trabajar a última hora, y cada uno recibió un denario (una moneda de plata). Decían: ‘Estos últimos apenas trabajaron una hora, y los consideras igual que a nosotros, que hemos aguantado el día entero y soportado lo más pesado del calor.’ El dueño contestó a uno de ellos: ‘Amigo, yo no he sido injusto contigo. ¿No acordamos en un denario al día? Toma lo que te corresponde y márchate. Yo quiero dar al último lo mismo que a ti. ¿No tengo derecho a llevar mis cosas de la manera que quiero? ¿O será porque soy generoso y tú envidioso? Así sucederá: los últimos serán primeros, y los primeros serán últimos.’”
