First Reading (Isaiah 45: 1 and 4–6)
A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah.
Thus states the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus: "For the sake of Jacob my servant, of Israel my chosen one, I have called you by your name and given you your mission although you do not know me. I am the Lord, and there is no other; there is no God besides me. I armed you when you did not know me, so that, from the rising to the setting of the sun, all may know that there is no one besides me; I am the Lord, and there is no other."
Second Reading (1 Thessalonians 1: 1–5b)
A reading from the first letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians.
From Paul, Sylvanus and Timothy to the church of Thessalonica which is in God the Father and in Christ Jesus, the Lord. May the peace and grace of God be with you. We give thanks to God at all times for you and remember you in our prayers. We constantly recall before God our Father the work of your faith, the labors of your love and your endurance in waiting for Christ Jesus our Lord. We remember, brothers and sisters, the circumstances of your being called. The gospel we brought you was such not only in words. Miracles, Holy Spirit and plenty of everything were given to you.
Gospel (Matthew 22: 15–21)

The Pharisees went out and took counsel on how they could trap Jesus with his own words. They then sent their disciples with the members of Herod's party for this purpose. They stated to Jesus, "Master, we know that you are an honest man and truly teach God's way; you are not influenced by others nor are you afraid of anyone. Tell us, then, what you think: is it against the Law to pay taxes to Caesar or not?" But Jesus understood their evil intent, and stated to them, "Hypocrites! Why are you testing me? Show me the coin with which you pay the taxes." They showed him a denarius, and Jesus stated to them, "Whose head is this, and whose name?" They answered, "Caesar's." Then Jesus replied, "Therefore, return to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's."

Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all you lands. Tell his glory among the nations; among all peoples, his wondrous deeds.
For great is the LORD and highly to be praised; awesome is he, beyond all gods. For all the gods of the nations are things of naught, but the LORD made the heavens.
Give to the LORD, you families of nations, give to the LORD glory and praise; give to the LORD the glory due his name! Bring gifts, and enter his courts.

Así habla Yahvé a Ciro, su ungido: “Yo te he llevado de la mano para doblegar a las naciones y desarmar a los reyes. Hice que las puertas se abrieran ante ti y no volvieran a cerrarse. Por amor a mi servidor Jacob, a Israel, mi elegido, te he llamado por tu nombre y te he lanzado sin que tú me conocieras. Yo soy Yahvé, y no hay otro igual, fuera de mí no hay ningún otro Dios. Sin que me conocieras estuve contigo, para que todos sepan, del oriente al poniente, que nada existe fuera de mí.”
Salmo responsorial (Salmo 96) (Versículos 1, 3–5, y 7–10)
La respuesta es: Dale al Señor gloria y honor.
• Canten al Señor un canto nuevo, cante al Señor toda la tierra. Anuncien su gloria entre las naciones, y sus maravillas entre los pueblos.
• Porque el Señor es grande y muy digno de alabanza, más temible que todos los dioses. Los dioses de los pueblos no son más que apariencia, pero el Señor hizo el cielo.
• Aclamen al Señor, familias de los pueblos, aclamen la gloria y el poder del Señor; aclamen la gloria del nombre del Señor. Entren en sus atrios trayendo una ofrenda.
• Adoren al Señor al manifestarse su santidad: ¡que toda la tierra tiemble ante él! Digan entre las naciones: “¡el Señor reina! El mundo está firme y no vacilará. El Señor juzgará a los pueblos con rectitud.”
Segunda Lectura (Tesalonicenses 1: 1–5B)

Pablo, Silvano y Timoteo saludan a la Iglesia de Tesalónica, que está unida a Dios Padre y al Señor Jesucristo. Llegue a ustedes la gracia y la paz. Siempre damos gracias a Dios por todos ustedes, cuando los recordamos en nuestras oraciones, y sin cesar tenemos presente delante de Dios, nuestro Padre, cómo ustedes han manifestado su fe con obras, su amor con fatigas y su esperanza en nuestro Señor Jesucristo con una firme constancia. Sabemos, hermanos amados por Dios, que ustedes han sido elegidos. Porque la Buena Noticia que les hemos anunciado llegó hasta ustedes, no solamente con palabras, sino acompañada de poder, de la acción del Espíritu Santo y de toda clase de dones.
Evangelio (Mateo 22: 15–21)

Los fariseos se movieron para ver juntos el modo de atrapar a Jesús en sus propias palabras. Le enviaron, pues, discípulos suyos junto con algunos partidarios de Herodes a decirle: “Maestro, sabemos que eres honrado y que enseñas con sinceridad el camino de Dios. No te preocupas por quién te escucha, ni te dejas influenciar por nadie. Danos, pues, tu parecer: ¿Está contra la Ley pagar el impuesto al César? ¿Debemos pagarlo o no?” Jesús se dio cuenta de sus malas intenciones y les contestó: “¡Hipócritas! ¿Por qué me ponen trampas? Muéstrenme la moneda que se les cobra.” Y ellos le mostraron un denario. Entonces Jesús preguntó: “¿De quién es esta cara y el nombre que lleva escrito?” Contestaron: “Del César.” Jesús les replicó: “Devuelvan, pues, al César las cosas del César, y a Dios lo que corresponde a Dios.”
