After this, the son of this housewife became ill. And such was his illness that he stopped breathing. She then stated to Elijah, "What did you do, O man of God? Have you come to uncover past sins and cause my son's death?" He answered, "Give me your son." Taking him from her lap, he carried him up to the upper room where he was staying and laid him on his own bed. Then he called on the Lord, "O Lord, my God, will you afflict even the widow with whom I am residing by letting her son die?" Then he stretched himself on the child three times and called on the Lord, " O Lord, my God, let this child's breath return to him." The Lord listened to the pleading of Elijah and the child's breath returned to him, and he lived. Elijah then took the child and brought him down from the upper room. He gave him to his mother and stated, "See, your son is alive." Then the woman stated to Elijah, "Now I am certain that you are a man of God, and that your words really came from the Lord."

Let me remind you, brothers and sisters, that the Gospel we preached to you is not a human message, nor did not I received it from anyone, I was not taught of it but it came to me as a revelation from Christ Jesus. You have heard of my previous activity in the Jewish community; I furiously persecuted the Church of God and tried to destroy it. For I was more devoted to the Jewish religion than many follow Jews of my age, and I defended the traditions of my ancestors made fanatically. But one day God called me out of his great love, he who had chosen me from my mother's womb; and he was pleased to reveal in me his Son, that I might make him known among the pagan nations. Then I did not seek human advice nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me. I immediately went to Arabia, and from there I returned again to Damascus. Later, after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to meet Cephas, and I stayed with him for fifteen days. But I did not see any other apostle except James, the Lord's brother.

This news spread out in the Jewish country and the surrounding places.

Quiero que sepan, hermanos, que la Buena Noticia que les prediqué no es cosa de los hombres, porque yo no la recibí ni aprendí de ningún hombre, sino por revelación de Jesucristo. Seguramente ustedes oyeron hablar de mi conducta anterior en el Judaísmo: cómo perseguía con furor a la Iglesia de Dios y la arrasaba, y cómo aventajaba en el Judaísmo a muchos compatriotas de mi edad, en mi exceso de celo por las tradiciones paternas. Pero cuando Dios, que me eligió desde el seno de mi madre y me llamó por medio de su gracia, se complació en revelarme a su Hijo, para que yo lo anunciara entre los paganos, de inmediato, sin consultar a ningún hombre y sin subir a Jerusalén para ver a los que eran Apóstoles antes que yo, me fui a Arabia y después regresé a Damasco. Tres años más tarde, fui desde allí a Jerusalén para visitar a Pedro, y estuve con él quince días. No vi a ningún otro Apóstol, sino solamente a Santiago, el hermano del Señor.

En seguida, Jesús se dirigió a una ciudad llamada Naím, acompañado de sus discípulos y de una gran multitud. Justamente cuando se acercaba a la puerta de la ciudad, llevaban a enterrar al hijo único de una mujer viuda, y mucha gente del lugar la acompañaba. Al verla, el Señor se conmovió y le dijo: “No llores.” Después se acercó y tocó el féretro. Los que los llevaban se detuvieron y Jesús dijo: “Joven, yo te lo ordeno, levántate.” El muerto se incorporó y empezó a hablar. Y Jesús se lo entregó a su madre. Todos quedaron sobrecogidos de temor y alababan a Dios, diciendo: “Un gran profeta ha aparecido en medio de nosotros y Dios ha visitado a su Pueblo.” El rumor de lo que Jesús acababa de hacer se difundió por toda la Judea y en toda la región vecina.

DeleteYo lloré cuando escuché la homilía. Fue una experiencia dolorosa porque esa chica sintió lo que era sin su marido. Aunque a ella no le gustaba casarse con ese marido, ella decidió a hacerlo.

DeleteLa homilía de Padre Ignacio empezó con una historia que sucedió hace 16 años. Durante la primera semana de febrero en 1997, él recibió una llamada telefónica de una amiga antigua. Una madre ha tenido un marido que murió de un infarto. La madre tenía dos niños, un niño que tenía 7 años y un niño que tenía 3 años. Fue un momento difícil porque ella pensó que el Dios quitó su marido. Sin embargo, los niños crecen finamente. Ella dijo que sus niños podían sobrevivir sin su padre, porque Dios siempre venía a ella. Hay muchas cosas que impiden nuestras tareas o nuestros trabajos. Las decisiones políticas pueden impedir su trabajo. El estrés también impide sus acciones. Pero, cuando sucede el fallecimiento de un padre, parecería que esta experiencia implicaría algo que la vida no tiene ningún significado. La primera lectura nos presenta una historia de viudas que perdieron sus hijos. Cuando su marido se quitó en su vida con sus niños, la vida sería difícil, porque no hay otra persona que podría ayudar o apoyarte. Recuerden dos cosas: un Dios que sólo sabe lo que necesitamos en nuestras vidas. Las lecturas también nos invitan a ser mensajeros como Elías, y glorificar a nuestro Dios. Nos permiten a pedir al Señor lo que necesitamos, y nos ayudará, cuando lo pidamos. Es importante para asegurarte que estés bien, físicamente y espiritualmente.
