12th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Date: June 23, 2013

First Reading (Zechariah 12: 10-11 and 13:1)
A reading from the book of the Prophet Zechariah.
Thus states the Lord: I will pour out on the family of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of love and supplication. They will look at the one who was pierced and mourn for him as for an only child, weeping bitterly as for a firstborn. The mourning in Jerusalem will be as great as the mourning of Haddadrimmon in the plain of Megiddo. On that day a spring will well up for the family of David and for the inhabitants of Jerusalem to cleanse themselves of sin and defilement.

Second Reading (Galatians 3: 26-29)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the Galatians.
Brothers and sisters: Now, in Christ Jesus, all of you are sons and daughters of God through faith. All of you who were given to Christ through baptism, have put on Christ. Here there is no longer any difference between Jew or Greek, or between slave or freed, or between man and woman: but all of you are one in Christ Jesus. And because you belong to Christ, you are of Abraham's race and you are to inherit God's promise.

Gospel (Luke 9: 18-24)
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke.
One day when Jesus was praying alone, not far from his disciples, he asked them, "What do people say about me?" And they answered, "Some say that you are John the Baptist; others say that you are Elijah, and still others that you are one of the former prophets risen from the dead." Again Jesus asked them, "Who then do you say I am?" Peter answered, "The Messiah of God." Then Jesus spoke to them, giving them strict orders not to tell this to anyone. And Jesus added, "The Son of Man must suffer many things. He will be rejected by the elders and chief priests and teachers of the Law, and put to death. Then after three days will be raised to life." Jesus additionally stated to all the people, "If you wish to be a follower of mine, deny yourself and take up your cross each day, and follow me. For if you choose to save your life, you will lose it, and if you lose your life for my sake, you will save it."

  1. Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 63) (Verses 2-6 and 8-9)
The response is: My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.

O God, you are my God, it is you I seek; for you my body longs and my soul thirsts, as a dry and weary land without water.

Thus have I gazed upon you in the sanctuary, to see your power and your glory. Your love is better than life, my lips shall glorify you.

I will bless you as long as I live, lift up my hands and call on your name. As with the richest food my soul will feast; my mouth will praise you with joyful lips.

You have been my help; I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you, your right hand upholds me.

  2. Primera Lectura (Zacarías 12: 10-11 and 13:1)

    1. Unang Pagbabasa (Zacarias 12: 10-11 at 13:1)

      — Priest: Lord Jesus, to us, who are you? The way we live shows that we do not know you well. Lord, have mercy.
      Congregation: Lord, have mercy.
      — Priest: Jesus Christ, to us, who are you? We try to make you serve us rather than we serve you and serve with you. Christ, have mercy.
      Congregation: Christ, have mercy.
      — Priest: Lord Jesus, to us, who are you? We are afraid to give too much, we are afraid to give everything like the way you did. Lord, have mercy.
      Congregation: Lord, have mercy.
Have mercy on us, Lord, and forgive us our cowardice, our lack of faith in you. Make us free enough to follow you and lead us to everlasting life. Amen.

  9. Priest: Let us pray to the Father in heaven today that we may follow Jesus, his Son, and become more and more like him. Let us say: Lord, save your people.
    — For the people of God, the church, that Christ may be with us to carry the crosses of the trials of our times and to be for all people a living message of hope. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, save your people.
    — For our country, that our leaders and all of us may hear the cries for justice and that we may all realize that we are co-responsible by our silence and our lack of concern for the evils of oppression and exploitation. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, save your people.
    — For those who stand alone in life, that we may be to them companions on the road, who help them bear their crosses and who bring them hope and joy. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, save your people.
    — For those who are discouraged, for all who can no longer believe in the Gospel because we have not lived as followers of our Lord Jesus Christ, that we may be converted and bring them new courage to face life. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, save your people.
    — And for ourselves, that we may grow in love and openness to others, and that we may learn from Christ to be people for others. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, save your people.
    — Lord, in your Holy name, obtain for us from your Heavenly Father, His providence of the Saint Peter Canisius International Catholic Parish. Let us pray to the Lord. Lord, save your people.
Priest: For all our own personal intentions that have been stated at the beginning of the Mass, let us offer them to our God in silence.
Lord our God, your Son Jesus came to make everything new. Renew us day after day, that we may be a bit more like your Son, and as we change, that we may also change the world around us to make it a better place to live in, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  11. It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation, always and everywhere to give you thanks, Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God, through Christ our Lord. For by his birth he brought renewal to humanity's fallen state, and by his suffering, canceled out our sins; by his rising from the dead he has opened the way to eternal life, and by ascending to you, O Father, he has unlocked the gates of heaven. And so, with the company of Angels and Saints, we sing the hymn of your praise, as without end we acclaim…

Bow your heads and pray for God's blessing.
Dear people of God: The question asked of us today was: Who is Jesus for you? And the answer was: the Savior, the Son of the living God. Amen.
As we believe in him, may we follow him wherever he leads us, on the way of the cross and sacrifice as well as on the road of happiness. Amen.
With the blessing of almighty God, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, come down upon you and remain with you forever. Amen.
The Mass has ended, and you are sent. Therefore go in peace and follow the Lord on his way to people. Thanks be to God.
