New American Bible readings
First reading (Jeremiah 31: 31–34)
A reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah.
The days are coming, says the LORD, when I
will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. It
will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers the day I took them by
the hand to lead them forth from the land of Egypt; for they broke my covenant,
and I had to show myself their master, says the LORD. But this is the covenant
that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD. I
will place my law within them and write it upon their hearts; I will be their
God, and they shall be my people. No longer will they have need to teach their
friends and relatives how to know the LORD. All, from least to greatest, shall
know me, says the LORD, for I will forgive their evildoing and remember their
sin no more.
Second reading (Hebrews 5: 7–9)
A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to
the Hebrews.
In the days when Christ Jesus was in the
flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the
one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his
reverence. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered; and
when he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who
obey him.
Gospel (John 12: 20–33)

to John.
Some Greeks who had come to worship at the
Passover Feast came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked
him, "Sir, we would like to see Jesus." Philip went and told Andrew; then
Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. Jesus answered them, "The hour has
come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a
grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but
if it dies, it produces much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and
whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. Whoever
serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The
Father will honor whoever serves me. "I am troubled now. Yet what should I
say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? But it was for this purpose that I came
to this hour. Father, glorify your name." Then a voice came from heaven, "I
have glorified it and will glorify it again." The crowd there heard it and
said it was thunder; but others said, "An angel has spoken to him." Jesus
answered and said, "This voice did not come for my sake but for yours. Now
is the time of judgment on this world; now the ruler of this world will be
driven out. And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to
myself." He said this indicating the kind of death he would die.

And they will not have to teach each other, neighbor or brother, stating: 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the greatest to the lowliest, for I will forgive their wrongdoing and no longer remember their sin.

Truly, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. Those who love their life destroy it, and those who despise their life in this world keep it for everlasting life. Whoever wants to serve me, let him follow me and wherever I am, there shall my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. Now my soul is in distress. Shall I say: 'Father, save me from this hour'? But, I have come to this hour to face all this. Father, glorify your Name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it and I will glorify it again." People standing there heard something and stated it was thunder; but others stated, "An angel was speaking to him." Then Jesus declared, "This voice did not come for my sake but for yours; now sentence is being passed on this world; now the ruler of this world is to be cast down. And when I am lifted up from the earth, I shall draw all to myself." With these words, Jesus referred to the kind of death he was to die.

Have mercy on me, O God, in your love. In you great compassion blot out my sin. Wash me thoroughly of my guilt; cleanse me of evil.
Create in me, O God, a pure heart; give me a new and steadfast spirit. Do not cast me out of your presence nor take your holy spirit from me.
Give me again the joy of your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit. Then I will show wrongdoers your ways and sinners will return to you.
Responsorial psalm (Psalm 51) (Verses 3–4 and 12–15)

Este pacto no será como el que hice con sus antepasados, cuando los tomé de la mano para sacarlos de Egipto; porque ellos quebrantaron mi pacto, a pesar de que yo era su dueño. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo. Este será el pacto que haré con Israel en aquel tiempo: Pondré mi ley en su corazón y la escribiré en su mente. Yo seré su Dios y ellos serán mi pueblo. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo. Ya no será necesario que unos a otros, amigos y parientes, tengan que instruirse para que me conozcan, porque todos me conocerán, desde el más grande hasta el más pequeño. Segunda lectura (Hebreos 5: 7–9)

Cristo, mientras vivía en este mundo, con voz fuerte y muchas lágrimas, oró y suplicó a Dios, que tenía poder para librarle de la muerte; y por su obediencia, Dios le escuchó. Así que Cristo, a pesar de ser Hijo, por lo que sufrió aprendió a obedecer; y al perfeccionarse de esa manera, llegó a ser fuente de salvación eterna para todos los que le obedecen.
Evangelio (Juan 12: 20–33)

Entre la gente que había ido a Jerusalén a adorar a Dios en la fiesta, había algunos griegos. Estos se acercaron a Felipe, que era de Betsaida, un pueblo de Galilea, y le rogaron: “Señor, queremos ver a Jesús.” Felipe fue y se lo dijo a Andrés, y los dos fueron a contárselo a Jesús. Jesús les dijo: “Ha llegado la hora en que el Hijo del hombre va a ser glorificado. Les aseguro que si un grano de trigo no cae en la tierra y muere, seguirá siendo un solo grano; pero si muere, dará fruto abundante. El que ama su vida, la perderá; pero el que desprecia su vida en este mundo, la conservará para la vida eterna. Si alguno quiere servirme, que me siga; y donde yo esté, allí estará también mi servidor. Si alguno me sirve, mi Padre le honrará. “Siento en este momento una angustia terrible, pero ¿qué voy a decir? ¿Diré: ‘Padre, líbrame de esta angustia’? ¡Pero si precisamente para esto he venido! ¡Padre, glorifica tu nombre!” Entonces vino una voz del cielo, que decía: “¡Ya lo he glorificado, y lo glorificaré otra vez!” Al oír esto, la gente que estaba allí decía que había sido un trueno, aunque algunos afirmaban: “Un ángel le ha hablado.” Jesús les dijo: “No ha sido por mí por quien se ha oído esta voz, sino por ustedes.
